I’m Steve Hellen, and I’ve spent my career leading technology teams across humanitarian, international development, and higher education organizations. After years of leadership roles in technology and digital strategy, I decided to channel that experience differently to focus on what I’ve enjoyed most and where I’ve been most effective: helping mission-driven organizations use technology well.

Throughout my career, I’ve seen how the right digital strategy can unlock collaboration, strengthen programs, and create space for innovation. I’ve also seen how easily technology can become complicated and disconnected from the real needs of the people it’s meant to serve. I’ve learned that success isn’t about the newest tools. It’s about clarity, partnership, and a pragmatic approach that keeps impact at the center.

That belief is what led me to start Pragmatique. This independent consulting practice is built around the kind of work I’ve always found most meaningful: guiding organizations through digital transformation, aligning strategy and systems, and helping teams work together more effectively. It’s an opportunity to keep doing what I love by helping good organizations do their best work through thoughtful use of technology.
